An EDUSI is an Integrated Sustainable Urban Development Strategy. Projects financed by the economic funds FEDER (European Regional Development Fund) which aim to strengthen socio-economic cohesion within the European Union by overcoming imbalances between its regions.
Obtaining an EDUSI implies a commitment to achieve ambitious European objectives in the fields of employment, investment in I+D, education, energy and the fight against poverty. The idea is to twist the traditional concept of the city, which serves as a driving force to change towards the future by setting guidelines that are shared by the administration and citizens.
And we are thrilled to communicate that the municipality of Elche is the Spanish urban area selected to develop one of these European projects. The EDUSI Elx represents an investment of 30 million euros to be financed fifty percent between the City Council of Elche and the FEDER Operational Programme for Sustainable Growth 2014-2020.
The basis of EDUSI Elx is the strategic urban planning and management process that has been developed in the municipality of Elche since 1996, giving continuity to it. The City Council of Elx is developing a local governance that places citizens at the centre of municipal management, with the aim of involving them in the design and implementation of an intelligent, sustainable and inclusive city model.
EDUSI-Elxaims to implement a total of 11 lines of action focused on improving the conditions and quality of life of Elche and its residents, paying special attention to the most vulnerable neighbourhoods from a demographic, socio-economic, environmental and residential point of view.
And to echo this development plan, we have prepared an exhibition detailing the actions planed with EDUSI funds until 2023that was presented yesterday at the Cultural Center of the Clarisas by the mayor of the city, Carlos Gonzalez and the mayor of Institutional Representation Mireia Mollà. Exhibition that, in addition, is itinerant and that after being exposed in the historical center will move to Carrús and, eventually, to the different areas of the city where it is going to have a more intense impact the strategy EDUSI.
